In the summer of 2010, brothers-in-law Marty and Jim embark on a cycling trip along the Great Allegheny Passage and C&O Canal, a 335-mile trek from their adopted home in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Jim's boyhood home in Washington, DC.  Chance encounters with colorful local characters and other surprising escapades during five days of riding make for nonstop laughs.

As they travel through forests and along rivers, they experience the breathtaking scenery of western Pennsylvania and Maryland, discovering early American history while learning more about each other as well as themselves.

This true story is for adventurers and cyclists as well as couch potatoes looking for a lighthearted take on friendship and some warm-hearted fun.

Mission Statement

What is "Get Up and Ride" all About?

You've read the book, you're getting our monthly e-newsletter, perhaps you bought a shirt, and you may have attended one of our events.  What is "Get Up and Ride" all about?

I talked about this a year ago on my first Facebook video post (https://fb.watch/ayF4bJ47os/), but we had never formalized a mission statement. So Marty, Belle, Katie, my Mom (Phyllis) and I met recently to do just that.

This statement captures what we are hoping to do on this journey together.  Thanks for coming along for the ride - let us know what you think!
